Bruising after double eyelid surgery is something many people worry about, but did you know that it's a normal bodily process that helps the wound heal? While bruising is unavoidable, the degree of bruising and recovery time vary from person to person. In this article, we'll explore the different levels of bruising and suggest ways to help reduce bruising quickly, so you can be prepared and look your best throughout the process.

Bruising from surgery can be categorized into four levels, each with different characteristics and care requirements, as follows:
Level 1 Bruising /// Red:
A red bruise (or light pink in some people) usually appears immediately after surgery. The red color is caused by blood pooling in the surgical area, which is fresh blood that hasn't been broken down yet. Frequent cold compresses are recommended as needed. Cold compresses help reduce blood loss, relieve pain, and reduce swelling. The cold constricts blood vessels in the bruised area, causing the bruise to fade faster.
Level 2 Bruising /// Purple:
The bruise turns purple (or may appear blue or light brown). This color is caused by the breakdown of red blood cells pooled in the area, indicating that the body is absorbing and healing. There may be slight swelling. Recovery takes about 1-2 weeks. Continued cold compresses are recommended, and topical creams can be used to reduce bruising.
Level 3 Bruising /// Green:
A dark green or purple bruise is a sign that the wound is healing. The healing process is breaking down any remaining blood in the tissue. Some swelling may still occur. Recovery takes about 2-4 weeks. Switch to warm compresses to reduce swelling and help the bruise fade faster.
Level 4 Bruising /// Yellow:
When the bruise turns yellow, it indicates that the bruise is healing. The body is absorbing most of the accumulated blood. The yellow discoloration indicates the final stages of recovery. Warm compresses can be continued until the bruising completely disappears.
Note: Bruising after surgery may not occur in everyone. This depends on individual physical condition, skin type, and recovery process.
Proper post-surgical recovery and care are crucial in minimizing bruising severity and promoting faster wound healing. For best results, it is recommended to begin with cold compresses for the first 4 days after surgery, then switch to warm compresses continuously to stimulate blood circulation, reduce swelling and bruising, and help bruising fade more quickly.
