Double eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to fix eyelid problems and improve the appearance of the eye. It is a small surgical operation with fast recovery which became popular in Thailand. However, it is important to do your research before considering double eyelid surgery. Preparation before surgery, post operative care instructions, the recommendation for fast recovery, as well as the possible complications will be described below. Please read carefully and follow our instructions for a better outcome!
How to prepare

Please tell the doctor and staff about your medical conditions and drug allergy history. To avoid complications, let the doctor and staff know if you are taking any medications, including prescriptions, herbs or vitamins.
Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications at least a week before surgery.
Avoid taking Vitamin, herbal supplements and drinking alcohol at least 2 weeks before surgery, as they can cause swelling.
Recommend to wash your hair before the surgery day.
Do not wear any eye make-up on the day of surgery.
Do not wear contact lenses and you may bring your eyeglasses on the day of surgery.
Post-Operative care after surgery

Keep sterile gauze on hand, put in on the surgical area and compress for 3-5 minutes to stop bleeding and also reduce swelling. Do as often as you can on the first day after surgery. Please note that you may have blurred vision, but it will be better after fews minutes. For the first 4 days, please also do cold compress as often by applying a cool gel pack on the surgical site.
After 4th day, recommend doing a warm compress to reduce swelling and bruising.
You can take a shower but you have to avoid getting your eyes wet. Use a wet tissue, or wet wipe to wash your face, and keep your eyes dry at all times.
Rest and sleep with your head raised for 1 week. This will help prevent swelling at your surgical sites.
Take medicines as prescribed. Do not take aspirin or any products containing aspirin unless approved by your surgeon.
Clean your surgical site with sterile dressing set for at least 1-2 per day.
May apply ointment but it is not necessary, keeping the surgical area clean and dry is much more important.
Avoid wearing contact lenses at least 2 weeks after surgery.
If you have a seafood allergy, you should avoid eating seafood after double eyelid surgery for at least a month. Because causing severe allergies can interrupt the healing process. Also, limit consumption of salty foods and alcohol for at least a month.
Refrain from smoking at least 1 week after surgery because it can delay healing and can result in scarring.
