Which look of double eyelids is suitable for you??

Currently, we are in the New Normal life after the Covid-19 pandemic. Wearing a mask is a part of our life. Eye is a first impression when people look at you which is important for personality and face expression. Double eyelid surgery is a way to help you have bright and charming eyes.

There are many types of double eyelid surgery depending on the patient's eyes anatomy and eye problem. A doctor will analyze and determine the suitable double eyelid surgery technique for each individual. Also, having personalized eyelid design, to be sure that a new double eyelid is best fit with patient face appearance.

Some of you, who want to have double eyelids, may still not know which style of eyelid I want to have or which one looks good on my face. This article will help you figure it out!!

There are 2 types of double eyelid creases, which are

  1. Tapered creases

  2. Parallel creases

Tapered creases are well-defined eyelid creases which run along the length of the entire eye, and merge into the inner corners of the eye. This type is more common in Asian people. On the other hand, parallel creases go straight along the eyelid and run parallel to the base of the upper lid. The creases do not taper into the inner corners of the eye. Parallel double eyelids are more common in western people. It somehow makes the eyes appear larger and brighter.

While designing eyelid creases, the doctor will ask each patient “what type of eyelid would you like?” and also “what height of eyelid crease would you like it to be?. The height of eyelid crease is measured from the eyelashes to eyelid fold. However, it is important to consider the appropriate height of eyelid crease for each patient because there is a limit. Doctor cannot make a crease higher than the upper tarsal plate of the eyelid. A reason is that having too much high crease can cause ptosis.

Then…What should I choose between tapered or parallel creases, small, medium or big creases??

To answer the question of which type or size of double eyelid crease is best for you, it depends on each patient preference. Tapered or small creases may suit well with asian people or who have small shape of eyes. It also gives a natural look which suits the people who don’t like to do makeup or apply natural-Korean makeup style. For girls who love to do eyeliner,  want their eyes to look charming and striking or love to wear eyelid western makeup style, parallel or big creases may meet these kinds of people's lifestyles and needs. The results may make them have more fun with makeup.

However, doing parallel and big eyelid creases may need to do more technique of surgery besides Upper Blepharoplasty, which is Medial Epicanthoplasty or inner corner fold removal for more natural appearance. Anyway, this technique may be not necessary for people who already have no fold at the inner corner.

To summarize, each patient has a different eye shape which means that the appropriate double eyelid size and shape for each person is also varied. Other than choosing the right double eyelid style based on personal preference, the individual eye structure needs to be considered. If you still have a question on what type or shape of eyelid is best fit with you, it is recommended to have a personal consultation with a doctor.
